CAF works in partnership
with government, development and implementing partners in the
following four directions, as far as possible through integrated
approach:
-
Health,
HEALTH
PROGRAM
Considering the need of
our people and the institutional background of CAF, we will keep
this strategic direction as the core area and will develop on what
have been achieved during the past six years.
In addition to the above
mentioned core values of the organization, all personnel of CAF as
individuals and as groups respect the following principles in
delivering health services:
1.
Treating all people with dignity, honesty and respect and
considering healthy life as a basic right of every individual.
2.
Giving priority to groups in greatest need, especially women,
children, the disabled and those stricken with poverty.
3.
Making evidence-based decisions.
-
Promoting healthy lifestyles and discouraging practices proven
to be harmful.
The aim of health program
of CAF is to contribute to the health policy outcomes of the MoPH to
achieve:
-
Maternal mortality ratio reduced
from 1,600/ 100,000 live births to 400/100,000.
-
Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) with focus on the
quality of services to meet the standards.
The Ministry of Public
Health (MoPH) of Afghanistan is the main stakeholder of health
program of CAF. The organization will work in close coordination
with the MoPH and will follow its standards and priorities in the
provision of health services.
Donors, UN agencies (World
Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, UNFPA), and other national and
international organizations working in health are the main
stakeholders of CAF in the implementation of its health program.
Nutrition was an integrated program with health, in the previous
strategic plan. As malnutrition is a serious problem in the country
and CAF has institutional capabilities to address this need, we
would like to include it as a separate strategic direction to be
able to focus more seriously through systematic approaches.
In addition to the above mentioned core values of the organization,
all personnel of CAF as individuals and as groups respect the
following principles in delivering nutrition services:
1.
Giving priority to groups in greatest need, especially women,
children, the disabled and those stricken with poverty.
2.
Making evidence-based decisions.
-
Promoting healthy lifestyles and discouraging practices proven
to be harmful.
The aim of nutrition program of CAF is to contribute to the
followings by the year 2015:
-
Infant mortality rate reduced from 129/1000 live births to
55/1000.
-
Promoting optimal feeding practices of infants and young child
feeding (early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive
breastfeeding for first six months of life, introducing
appropriate complementary feeding at age six months,
continuation of breastfeeding for two years).
The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), the Ministry of Food and
Agriculture of Afghanistan are the main stakeholders of nutrition
program of CAF. Unicef, FAO, UNDP, WFP, MI, GAIN, World Bank, USAID
and other international agencies are also the key stakeholders and
investors in this program.
Education is one of the
strategic directions of CAF since the beginning, and we have a lot
of achievement in this area in the past 5 years. However; to
emphasize more on the education and capacity building which is a
serious need in Afghanistan, it was decided to focus only to this
part as a strategic direction. In the next five years, we would like
to work more systematically on this issue.
In addition to the core
values of CAF, all members of the organization consider the
following principles in delivering education services:
1.
Respecting the religion and cultural values of people.
2.
Respecting the self-esteem, and personality of all people,
regardless the level of knowledge they have,
-
Empowering the participants through sharing of knowledge and
enhancing their skills.
-
Focus on the marginalized groups, such as persons with
disabilities, women, and those living in rural areas or in
poverty.
The education program of
CAF contributes in achieving the following national objectives:
-
The enrollment rate in primary education increase to 100% for
girls and boys.
-
The quality of service provision has increased as a result of
developed capacity and motivation of the staff members and
volunteers of CAF and partners.
